NCC AIR wing camp of NER states underway

Chumukedima, July 15 (MExN): NCC Air Wing Camp for the North Eastern Region states got underway at Nagaland Police Central School Chumukedima from July 14 to 23 under 1 Nagaland Air Squadron NCC (Flying) Purana Bazar, Dimapur.   A press note stated that a total of 500 Cadets of Air Wing of NCC of NER States have congregated at the camp to undergo intensive training in Air Wing subjects apart from drill, weapon training, rifle firing, health and hygiene, leadership and personality development. They will also undertake Swachh Bharat, clean election and tree plantation.   Being an Air Wing Training Camp the events specific to this camp will be skeet shooting with double and single barrel rifles, control and speed line flying of aero models held by a wire in the hand of flier, aerobatics by remote control planes and familiarization with AN-32 transport aircraft and MI-17 helicopter- all these events will be carried out for the first time in Nagaland. 1 Nagaland Air Squadron NCC Flying has 700 Air Wing Cadets – 200 girls and boys from colleges and 500 girls and boys from schools of Nagaland.  

Cadets selected from this camp will represent NER in All India Vayu Sainik Camp at Jodhpur in Rajasthan in October 2016.   Flying activities of NCC activities of Nagaland will soon get a boost from March 2017 with the arrival of two Micro light aircraft from Slovenia to be permanently stationed in NCC hanger at Dimapur airport.   The Department of Youth Resources & Sports with great effort has obtained sanction from the Government of Nagaland for construction of taxi track from the hanger to the runway and the work is likely to be completed before the arrival of Garud Micro light aircrafts in March 2017. This will be a feather in the cap for Nagaland.   The Pipistrel Virus 912 SW 80 aircraft has won many international competitions including the NASA double challenge for speed and altitude in 2007 and 2008. The aircraft has been named GARUD by the National Cadet Corps.
