‘Extremely happy and grateful’ to be elected unopposed

NDPP-BJP alliance chief ministerial candidate Neiphiu Rio today exuded confidence that the alliance by itself will get absolute majority in the forthcoming election to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Rio was declared elected uncontested today from 11th Northern Angami- II A/C after his opponent, NPF candidate Chupfuo Angami, withdrew his candidature.
“I am extremely happy and grateful to my people that I had been made uncontested,” Rio said, while briefing media persons after election campaign kick-off programme of NDPP 11th Northern Angami A/C at Chiechama.
On being asked about the general apprehension about the alliance between NDPP and BJP, Rio said the church will definitely have apprehension because of whatever is happening around the country.
“During my time as chief minister there was no problem,” he said, adding the leadership might have compromised in many ways which created a concern for the church.
Rio said a leader not leading the people in the front but a leader leading from behind is very dangerous for the people. “Since all the elected members became a part of the government and there was no opposition and whatever they were doing was not good in the eye of the people.”
He further said the targeted people were not getting benefit and under opposition-less government the public had played part of opposition.
On crisis in the NPF, Rio said he was not responsible for the crisis. “They had betrayed me. They had not consulted me,” he said.
Rio in his address at the election campaign kick-off asked the party workers not to believe the propaganda doing the round but to work in unison to ensure the victory of NDPP-BJP alliance candidates.
If NDPP- BJP alliance is voted to power, it will focus on overall development of the state and vigorously pursue for resolving Naga political problem, he assured.
Visasolie Lhoungu, president, BJP Nagaland state in his speech called upon the party workers to work hard in the true spirit of alliance partner and at the same time build better coordination to ensure victory of the alliance candidates.
He announced that Neiphiu Rio as the chief ministerial candidate was also the choice of the central BJP leaders.
Menuovilie Kesiezie, vice president, NDPP Nagaland said that NDPP- BJP alliance was an issue based alliance.
Avio Testso, president, NDPP Kohima region also spoke at the programme.
