NEPEx review meeting held across Nagaland

For the success of Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) scheduled for April 26, a table top exercise was held at ATI, Kohima today. Different departments highlighted their respective status of preparation.  

The NEPEx drill will be in the form of setting up relief camp, base camp, makeshift hospitals, control room, how to evacuate in case of occurrence of disaster, identify number of vehicles to move anywhere whenever emergency arises, traffic regulation to avoid blockage, fire fighting mechanism, rescue team and rapid response team, ambulance in place, accessibility of medicines and other essential commodities, viability of wireless and other communication systems for quick update of information, etc.  

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) joint advisor (Ops) Dhirendra Singh Sindhu said the mock drill is to test the adequacy and efficiency of the Emergency Response Plan and the roles and responsibilities that need to be carried out by different stakeholders.  

Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma (IPS) suggested that some key roads of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung be blocked during the drill to stimulate real time disaster.  

Kohima: Kohima Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan in a separate review meeting today called upon the various teams to extend cooperation and to discharge their roles and responsibilities in creating awareness on how to prepare oneself during occurrence of natural calamities. He informed that the main staging area of NEPEx for Kohima district will be Kohima Village Ground, Relief Camp at Kohima College and Control room at DC office. The other locations for the exercise will be Christ King School, Mezhur Higher Secondary School, Directorate of Art & Culture, Directorate of Employment Skill and Development, Directorate of Youth Resources and Sports, Directorate of Education, SIRD, Naga Hospital, Oking Hospital, Bethel Hospital and KOHIMAS hospital.  

Kiphire: A meeting was also held at Kiphire DC conference hall, where ADC Kumar Ramnikant (IAS) urged upon the officers and participants of mock drill to execute the proposed drill with professionalism. SP Imnalensa (IPS) informed that staging area and relief camps will be set up so that in case of disaster occurrences, public will be aware and know where to go and seek help. The mock drill will be carried out at Loyola Hr. Secondary School, District Agriculture Officer’s office, Kiphire Town Council office, and private residence of Tokhyang.  

Longleng: The tabletop exercise on NEPEx for Longleng district was held at DC’s conference hall. The Longleng DC cautioned that defaulting departments will be reported to the higher authority. Theja, DPA, DDMA Longleng informed that three locations, namely St. Joseph School, Phom Lampong School and old treasury office, have been identified for conduct of the NEPEx. It was decided to close shops and business establishments when the siren bell is sounded and to remain closed till the mock drill exercise is over.  

Peren: In Peren, the tabletop exercise was held at Town Hall. The ADC Peren, Chubawati Chang stated that any kind of disaster usually occurs without any signs of warning. The only solution, he stated, is to be prepared. Disaster management is the responsibility of everyone and disaster is a major concern all over the world, he added.
