NERSNA observes Nepali language recognition day

Kohima, August 22 (MExN): The North Eastern Region Service Nepali Association, Kohima observed the 20th Nepali Language Recognition Day on August 20 last at Durgabari Hall with Kumar Subba, chairman Dimapur Gorkha Union as chief guest and Deepak Lama, executive DGU Gayatri Devi and Drupadi Lama president Gorkha Mahila Samiti, Kohima as distinguished guest respectively. The programme was chaired by Rukmaan Khanal, president NERSNA with Bijay Bantawa Rai, assistant general secretary anchored the programme. Welcome speech was delivered by Maniram Ale, vice president (Org). Dilip Ghimire delivered a brief speech on the objective and significance of the program while special song was presented by Furba Lama. The highlights of the programme were poetry recitation by Nepali literary poets, Nepali folk songs by cultural groups and dance.
Mentionably, the Nepali language was added in the eight schedule of the Indian Constitution on 20th August 1992. On this historic day, Nepali language got constitutional recognition. This day is celebrated by the Indian Nepalese as “Bhasha Manyata Diwas which has become a day of great importance to the Nepalese in the field of Nepali literature. Nepali language got national recognition after thirty six years of democratic struggle. The day is observed every year by NERSNA.
