New Market polling stations reportedly implement ‘one person, one vote’

Kohima, February 27 (MExN): Two polling stations under 8th Western Angami Assembly Constituency – New Market I and New Market III polling stations – led in Clean Election campaign with ‘one person, one vote’, according to a press release.

New Market I polling station recorded 640 votes out of 768 voters and New Market III polling station recorded 288 votes out of 356 voters, it was informed.

The release further claimed that New Market Area Panchayat (NMAP) and New Market Youth Organization (NMYO) maintained strict vigil throughout the polling period on Tuesday and did not allow any proxy vote to be cast in the two stations.

NMAP Chairman Kuotsu Kehie expressed satisfaction over the polling conducted in the New Market polling stations. “…in a democracy, he or she has right to cast for own choice,” he stated.

The Chairman further maintained that whichever candidate wins the election from the seat, the legislator should work for the development of the assembly constituency. Two most important priorities of the New Market colony, he stated, is the road development and the construction of New Market Area Panchayat hall.

The New Market area is one of the oldest colonies in the state capital and need immediate attention of road development, as most of the vehicles – be it private, government and commercial – traverse the colony road daily, the release added.
