Meeting on bye-election

Kohima, May 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Commissioner & Returning Officer for bye-poll to the Lok Sabha 2018, Motsuthung Patton (IAS) has in a notification informed that there will be a meeting in the conference hall of the office of the commissioner on May 14 at 2:00 pm along with General Observer appointed by the Election Commission of India, political parties and contesting candidates in regard to the ensuing Lok Sabha bye-election. Therefore, all concerned have been requested to attend the meeting.


AR apprehend NNC (NA) cadre

Kohima, May 13 (MExN): Kohima battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended a Naga National Council (Non Accordist) cadre carrying out “extortion activity” near Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima on May 11. He has been identified as Kilonser Hovito Kiho (51). A press release from HQ IGAR (N) said the recoveries from the individual included 119 blank extortion cash receipts of NNC (NA), 8 blank Identity Cards of NNC (NA), one blank Identity Card NNC (NA) Civil Wing, seven blank pad of NNC (NA), Ministry of Chaplee Affairs, Central Finance, stamp, stamp pad and other “incriminating documents”. The apprehended along with the recovered items was handed over to North Police Station, Kohima for further investigation, it added.


Ex-servicemen rally on May 15-16

Kohima, May 12 (MExN): An ex-servicemen rally will be organised at Zakhama Military Station on May 15 to 16. A press release from Col C Konwer, PRO (Defence) has requested all ex-servicemen from Kohima, Phek, Kiphire, Wokha and Zunheboto districts to attend the same. During the rally, issues pertaining to welfare of ex-servicemen will be addressed in presence of officials from Army, Rajya Sainik Board/Zila Sainik Board and civil administration. With the Army commemorating the year 2018 as ‘Year of the Disabled Soldier’, special focus will be on sensitizing the disabled soldiers about their entitlements/benefits and also addressing their grievances. All ex-servicemen have been requested to come with a copy of PPO, bank passbook and other essential documents required for addressing their grievances. Ex-servicemen were also requested to intimate attendance to respective Zila Sainik Boards.


SOT Mokokchung seize drugs; arrest 6

Mokokchung, May 13 (MExN): The Special Operation Team (SOT) of DEF Mokokchung seized drugs and cash from a house in Changtongya Town on May 12. In this connection, six people were apprehended and handed over to PS-I Mokokchung along with the seized items. According to a First Information Report (Suo Moto) written to the Officer-in-Charge, Police Station-I, Mokokchung by SOT Commander, DEF Mokokchung, around 9 gram of “suspected” Brown Sugar, 48 pills of “suspected” Spasmo Proxyvon, 71 tablets of Nitroxo, and Rs. 84,600 in cash were recovered from the house. It requested the OC to take necessary action and book the apprehended persons under appropriate section of law.


NPP 45-Tehok A/C dissolved

Mon, May 13 (MExN): National People’s Party (NPP) of 45-Tehok Assembly Constituency has been dissolved, according to a press release. NPP 45-Tehok A/C president, Nok-o and general secretary, Chingpai in the press release stated that the members have decided to join the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in “totality.”


DRSU installs new office bearers

Dimapur, May 13 (MExN): Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union (DRSU) installed its new team of office bearers for the tenure 2018-2020 on May 9 at Hotel Seb Tower conference hall here. The new team will be led by Tenyebinlo Himb as the president. Introduction of new team & oath taking was done by Daniel Semp, Election Chairman, informed a press release from DRSU. The programme was chaired by A Shyerhunlo Lorin, while dedicatory prayer was said by Gwanilo Khing, pastor, Rengma Baptist Church Sovima. Speeches were also delivered by the outgoing and incoming teams.
