Dimapur, June 14 (MExN): The newsletter on environment and development titled, ‘The Jhum’ Vol.1 issue no. 4, published by the Soil & Water Conservation Department was released by Vemohu Kezo, Head GB of Khulazu Basa and Vice President Phek GBs Association in the presence of Er. Sunil Kumar, Superintendent Engineer, Central Water Commission, Er. Ramesh Panwar, EE,Brahmaputra Board, Silchar, Assam and Forester. K. Khekiho Shohe, Joint Director.
It may be stated that the monitoring team for Integrated Catchment Area Treatment (ICAT) funded by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation under the Flood Management Programme and implemented by the Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Nagaland was conducted from June 8 to 12 with visiting officials.
According to the press release issued by K. Khekiho Shohe, Joint Director, Soil & Water Conservation Department, the newsletter narrates the process of implementation of Flood Management Program through Integrated Catchment Area Treatment in the upper Sidzu to trap the top fertile soil and surface runoff with various soil and water conservation measures i.e. Water Harvesting Ponds, contour trenches, check dams, creation of nurseries and gap plantation, land shaping, contour bunds, Sediment Monitoring Station, Entry Point Activities etc, along with impressive meaningful photographs.
The visiting officials were accompanied by both directorate and district officials, from the department, and also beneficiaries and village elders under Dimapur, Zunheboto, Kohima and Phek districts.
