NF Railway to run special trains in flood affected Assam

Maligaon, July 15 (MExN): In view of the ongoing flood situation in North East region, especially Assam, Ministry of Railways has offered all sorts of possible help to the affected State governments, according to a press release from Pranav Jyoti Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway.   It said that rail services are fully operational and have not been affected by the flood in Assam. To help passengers travel to distant places, NF Railway will be running special trains from Guwahati towards Murkongselek and Silchar. The passenger special train with 10 coaches will leave from Murkongselek at 07:35 hours on July 16, 18 and 20 to arrive Guwahati at 19:10 hours with stoppages at Telem, Silapathar, Dhemaji, Biswanath Chariali, North Lakhimpur, Gogamukh, Hurmuti, Gohpur, Rangapara, Rangiya, Kamakhya on both ways. During return journey, the special train will leave from Guwahati at 07:35 hours on July 17, 19 and 21 to arrive Murkongselek at 19:15 hours. While the special train from Silchar having 12 coaches will leave from Silchar on July 16, 18 and 20 at 18:00 hours to arrive Guwahati next day at 07:45 hours. It will depart from Guwahati on July 17, 19 and 21 July at 17:30 hours to arrive Silchar at 06:30 hours next day. It will have stoppages at Katakhal, Badarpur, New Haflong, Mahur, Maibong, Lumding, Hojai and Chaparmukh both ways.   Meanwhile, the release informed that a special meeting was held on the flood situation of Assam at Railway Board, which was attended by the Board members apart from Director General (Health) and Director General (RPF).   It added that the Union Railway Minister after having talks with the Chief Ministers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh also instructed officials to ensure that drinking water supply, food grains, medicines, healthcare facilities & food grain movement for North East are given priority transportation by Railways. He also directed the officials to extend possible assistance in repairing roads so that smooth connectivity may be provided for rescue & relief. The Minister further emphasised upon coordination with the National Disaster Management teams working in Assam.   The release said Chahatey Ram, General Manager, NF Railway along with other senior officials of NF Railway is also monitoring the situation closely.   Additional General Manager of NF Railway along with other seniors have already had discussion with the Commissioner and Secretary (Revenue & Disaster Management), Govt. of Assam, yesterday and offered all sorts of help from NF Railway, including relief and restoration apart from food items, drinking water bottles and cattle feed, it added.
