NFR thrust on Green initiative

Maligaon, December 6 (MExN): The North East Frontier Railway (NFR) has made a target to make all railway stations 100% LED lit by March 31, 2018.   This huge initiative to provide energy efficient lighting will lead to an annual saving of Rs. 67 lakhs per year in the energy bill of the railway, a press release from the NFR stated.   At present, NFR has 534 stations, out of which 101 stations have already been made 100% LED lit and works are ongoing to make the rest of the stations fully LED lit within the target period. Out of the 101 stations where LED lighting works have been completed, 35 are in Katihar Division, 14 in Alipurduar Division, 30 in Rangiya Division, 16 in Lumding Division and 6 in Tinsukia Division.   In another such initiative towards harvesting clean and green energy, NFR has already commissioned Roof–top Solar Power Plants over railway establishments and are producing around 980 KW of power for official use. More such solar power plants are in the pipeline, the release added.
