NFR’s RPF recovers contraband goods worth around Rs 7.42 lakh

Guwahati, September 23 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) have recovered assorted contraband items worth about Rs. 7.42 lakh during first 22 days of September, an official release informed today. 


The contraband items such as cannabis, foreign cigarettes and alcohols etc were recovered during regular checks and special drives at various stations and train, stated the release issued by Subhanan Chanda, NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer .    

                                                                                                              
One person involved in trafficking contraband liquor was also held at Katihar railway station on September 16, it said.


During the same period, RPF personnel apprehended 4 persons on charges of theft of passenger’s belongings and recovered 12 mobile phones from their possession from Kamakhya and Katihar railway stations, it added. 
 RPF has also recovered sedative drugs - 16 Ativan tablets in 1 strip, 20 loose tablets and powder of sedative tablets in a small polythene bundle, from one of the apprehended persons from Kamakhya Railway station, the release said. 


Meanwhile, it further informed that acting on information on September 7, the RPF conducted raid at ‘Digital World’ situated at Nishiganj, Coochbehar (WB) and apprehended 1 person involved in touting activities.


In another such incident on September 19, a joint team of RPF raided ‘Ali Mobile Shop’ located at Sonari Bazar, Coochbehar (WB) and arrested one person involved in touting activities.


Five electronic reservation slips of different trains and dates, one gmail screen shot print out of PNR, a computer monitor, one CPU, an Airtel broadband, one personal diary, a cash memo book, one blank cheque book along with passbook, a mobile phone and cash Rs. 3160 was recoverd from the shop, it added. 


The joint team comprised of  RPF’s Inspector Ravi Kumar; Sub-Inspector Kanak Basu and staff of RPF Post/New Coochbehar along with PP Jha, Sub-Inspector S Roy and Constable RK Sharma of CIB (Crime Investigation Branch) of RPF/Alipurduar. 

 

85 Children rescued

Meanwhile, the CRPO’s release further informed that the RPF also conducted checking against human trafficker at New Bongaigaon Railway station and apprehended one woman involved in child trafficking.


During the same period (September 2-22), RPF has rescued 85 children from different stations over NFR and handed them over to their respective parents, NGOs or State police, it added.
