NIA probe exposes doublespeak of BJP, callousness of NPF: NPCC

Kohima, November 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has stated that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe against Government officials on allegations of terror funding has exposed the doublespeak of BJP and the callousness of NPF.

Voicing concern over the recent spate of Government officials being victimized by the NIA on allegations of terror funding, the NPCC in a press release through its Media Cell argued that there is no subject in Nagaland who has not paid “illegal taxes”.

“It is not only the government employees or government agencies that have succumbed to extortion demands; rather all business establishments, contractors, suppliers and even village councils are at the receiving end,” the NPCC stated and recollected past instances where many senior government officials and prominent businessmen were assassinated for not being able to meet the extortion demands.

“Today, it is an open secret that every project funds and every budget including salary has certain percentages for all factions,” the NPCC claimed and maintained that it will not remain silent and let things deteriorate as the government employees are “caught between the devil and the deep blue sea”.

The NPCC accused the GoI of deliberately not providing sustenance to designated camps and alleged that Cease Fire Grounds Rules agreed between GoI and various factions has been conveniently forgotten.

It argued that the GoI’s claims of being serious in resolving the Naga Political problem while unleashing the NIA on the hapless government officials amounted to “doublespeak” and also charged the NPF-BJP Government of having conveniently abdicated their responsibility to protect the lives and rights of the people. “Over the years, the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers has become mute spectator by silently allowing officers to compromise with extortion demands,” the NPCC charged and in this connection, urged Government employees, especially senior officers, to come out with truth since as government servants they have served the directives of NPF-BJP Govt.

Asserting that the victimization of government officials and the people of Nagaland will not be tolerated, the NPCC demanded that the NIA go into the root cause of succumbing to extortion demands rather than harassing the government employees.

“The real masters who are responsible for loss of hundreds of firearms, thousands of ammunition rounds and who have allowed extortion to be systematized cannot be insulated from the long arms of law,” the NPCC maintained.
