No agreement so far: Tokheho asks GoI to expedite Naga political talks

DIMAPUR, JUNE 25 (MExN): Nagaland Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha, Tokheho Yepthomi today urged upon the Government of India to expedite and bring conclusion to the two decades old Naga political negotiations.

Participating in the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to both Houses of Parliament, Yepthomi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister for signing the Framework Agreement within a short time of taking over office and hoped that the negotiations will be concluded before the end of the tenure of the 17th Lok Sabha.

He also posed an unstarred questioned in Lok Sabha regarding the status of the Naga political negotiation and the timeframe in which it is likely to be resolved. To this, a reply from the Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy on June 25 stated that “negotiations with various stakeholders are in progress” but that “no agreement has been concluded so far.”

Yepthomi meanwhile appealed to the Prime Minister and Home Minister to have thorough deliberations with Chief Ministers of all NE States on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) before it is amended in Parliament. He stated that people of North East have the apprehension that CAB will open the floodgates for immigrants from neighboring countries to come and reside in India, particularly the region.

He also stressed on the importance of the road sector in the region and asked the government to give more emphasis to it as all NE states are mostly dependent on road transport.
