Dimapur, September 5 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has issued a clarification for the “unfounded malicious allegation made by the Meitei student bodies like the AMSU and AAMSU with regard to the alleged assault meted out to them by some unknown miscreants who claimed to be members of the NSCN (IM) at Nungba Bazaar, Tamenglong district in the evening of September 3, 2018.”
The press statement issued by the MIP clarified that no NSCN (IM) officials were involved in the alleged harassment meted out to the Imphal valley-based students’ union leaders and artistes. “Such an act of harassment and disturbances given to travelers in Naga territory must be condemned by all and the NSCN (IM) with all seriousness will pursue to contain such anti-social elements with all vigor,” it stated.
The MIP also stated, “it is advised that allegation are not hurled to the NSCN (IM) on the ground of mere speculation and suspicion. Elements desirous of tarnishing the reputation of the NSCN (IM) and elements who wants to create problems are working day and out, for which we must all be very watchful.”
Further, it informed that the NSCN (IM) arrested two miscreants who were found extorting at Nungba in the name of the NSCN (IM) on September 5. During interrogation, they confessed to have looted around 20 trucks, raising suspicion of their involvement in the unfortunate incident of Nungba bazaar. However, interrogation is still going on, the statement added.
“Therefore, the NSCN (IM) has nothing to do with the incident which occurred on September 3 evening evening at Nungba Bazaar and appeal to all for harmony,” it asserted.
