Nagaland State Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio today inaugurated the Mon International Trade Fair and Expo at Local Ground, Mon under the theme, ‘Exploring new market opportunities and expanding sales network.’

Rio as guest of honour stated that Mon is one of the most strategic districts of Nagaland bordering Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar. It is also the Land of Angh as well as the Handicraft District which is known for unique handicraft and art forms. “This Trade Fair and Expo will help the entrepreneurs of the district to have opportunities which will help in building partnerships and access networks,” he stated.

The CM maintained that this expo would provide opportunity to the youth and entrepreneurs to showcase their products to the world, especially in organic products and handicrafts.

“Nagaland has no shortage of natural resources, provided we go for exploration and we also hold rich promises for export of crops like coffee, cardamom, peppers and spices,” the CM said while adding that NE is a rich bio-diversity hotspot with rare medicinal plants and herbs which can be exploited.

He also mentioned that the state government is trying to promote growth of trade and business as facilitators. Rio meanwhile commended the fact that the expo is being held in Mon rather than the usual venues in Dimapur and Kohima.

He further encouraged people to adopt a banking culture and start getting bank loans from for farming and business. Towards this the CM called for the building of trust with banks.

The Expo was organised by the Mon District Administration in collaboration with Nagaland Handloom& Handicraft Promotion Council (NHHPC). It will culminate on January 17.
