Three injured, houses collapse in landslide in Arunachal Itanagar, August 7 (PTI): Three persons were injured and eight houses collapsed following landslides triggered by torrential rain at Barbara in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, an official said today. The local administration evacuated the people of the entire village to a safer place after the landslide on Friday, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Chutia said. A road, two culverts and a bridge were also damaged in the rain that is continuing for the past few days. Immediate relief materials and monetary assistance have been provided to the affected people, he said. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed shock and asked for early constitution of a board to assess the losses for further action.   ILP available at Mizoram station Aizawl, August 7 (PTI): Non-tribals travelling to Mizoram by train can now get Inner Line Permit (ILP) at the Bairabi Railway Station from Saturday, according to an official statement. The Inner Line Permit Counter has been started at the Bairabi Rail Station, where ILP can be issued to the travellers. The counter was established after a broad gauge train service commenced at the Bairabi station from neighbouring Assam recently.   OIL pays Rs 2.49 crore royalty to Arunachal Pradesh Itanagar, August 7 (PTI): Oil India Limited has made a payment of Rs 2.49 crore to Arunachal Pradesh against differential royalty on oil for February 2014 to March this year. General Manager of Oil India, Duliajan (Assam), A K Acharya handed over the cheque to Chief Minister Pema Khandu in his office yesterday. The GM briefed Khandu on the pending issues of Ningru oil field and requested him to expedite the Petroleum Mining Lease, an official release said here today. He also apprised Khandu of the yet to be signed MoU of 10 MW gas power plant. The Chief Minister assured him to fast-track the pending issues and asked the firm to take up more activities in the state as it has abundant mineral oil resources which need to be tapped properly, the release said.   Rahul summoned in defamation case in Assam Guwahati, August 7 (PTI): A court here on Saturday issued summons to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case for his remarks against the RSS over entry to a monastery in Barpeta. Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup, Sanjoy Hazarika summoned Mr. Gandhi on September 21 to face trial under Section 500 of the IPC, which prescribes simple imprisonment up to two years or fine or both for defamation. An RSS volunteer Anjan Bora had filed the criminal case alleging that Mr. Gandhi had tarnished the organisation’s image by saying that he was not allowed by RSS members to enter Barpeta Satra, a 16th century Vaishnavite monastery, in Assam on December 12, 2015. Bora said Gandhi was supposed to go to the Satra but instead took part in a padayatra. On December 14, the Congress vice-president said at a press conference in New Delhi that he tried to enter the Satra but was instead prevented from doing so by its elected members and RSS supporters.   Tripura increases border security AGARTALA, August 7 (TNN): Tripura has sounded an alert after the Kokrajhar attack in Assam on Friday. Security has been increased along the India-Bangladesh border, as well as along the state's borders with Assam and Mizoram. According to reports, police officers from North Tripura, Assam's Karimganj and Mizoram's Mamit held a meeting and discussed ways of securing the interstate border to prevent the movement of insurgents. All police stations in North Tripura have been alerted and security apparatus, including sniffer dogs and plain-clothes police officers, have been deployed to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations. Meanwhile, a high-level meeting was held at the state police headquarters here on Saturday. All police stations and outposts have been asked to be on guard. The BSF has also been put on alert. A senior police officer of the Special Branch, the intelligence wing of state police, said tighter and more intensive patrolling of all sensitive areas has been started. "At the height of insurgency in the state, militant attacks on important national days like Independence Day or Republic Day were routine; insurgency is now at its lowest ebb in Tripura but we cannot take any chances," the officer said.
