5.1-magnitude earthquake rocks Assam

Dimapur, June 11 (MExN): A moderate earthquake with its epicentre at a place 22 kilometres from Dhing in Nagaon district rocked the region today. It was located at latitude 26. 2 north and longitude 92.5 degree east, the PTI New Agency reported citing Regional Seismological Centre Shillong. There was no immediate report of any damage or casualty, officials said here. The earthquake was felt across Nagaland.


CM inaugurates Green Mizoram Day

Aizawl, June 11 (PTI): Green Mizoram Day was today observed across the state with government employees, students and members of NGOs planting large number of trees, an official statement said. Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla inaugurated the Green Mizoram Day, 2018 at a function attended by his cabinet colleagues, legislators and senior government officials where they undertook ceremonial planting of trees along the river Chite in Aizawl, it said. The Green Mizoram Day is being organised every year on June 11 since 1999.


UTLA cadre killed in Manipur gunfight

Imphal, June 11 (IANS): A militant of the United Tribal Liberation Army was killed in a gunfight with the Assam Rifles in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Sunday night, police said on Monday. Two other militants were injured in the firefight at Khuram in the district and have been arrested, said police sources, citing a report lodged at the Jiri police station by personnel of the 37 Assam Rifles. According to the report, an M-16 rifle was recovered from the dead militant, who is yet to be identified, and a Chinese-made 9 mm pistol was also found from the injured militants, who have been admitted to a hospital.Police sources said that combing operations are being conducted in the nearby mountains and rain forests to track down the militants who had managed to escape.


Curfew extended in Shillong for a few more days: Top official

Shillong, June 11 (PTI): The Meghalaya government today decided to extend night curfew in the violence-hit Meghalaya capital by “a few more days” and promised to review its decision to suspend Internet services after 24 hours, a top district official said here today. Curfew would be enforced from 6 pm today to 7 am tomorrow in the 14 “vulnerable” areas and 9 pm to 5 am in other parts of Shillong, he said.
