The objective of North East Rural Livelihood Project, Ministry of DoNER, Govt. of India (World Bank Funded) is to improve rural livelihood especially that of women, unemployed youth and the most disadvantaged in four North Eastern States of Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. 


The project has a three approach to strengthening for achieving sustainable development. They are:
•    Social empowerment
•    Economic empowerment
•    Partnership and linkages


The project covers two Districts each of Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and five Districts of Tripura. These eleven Districts covers as many as 62 blocks and 1645 villages. The project support structure at various level and governance. At National Level Ministry of DoNER, Regional Level, Regional Project Management Unit, State Level Nodal Officer, State Project Coordinator, District Level District Project Management Unit. 


In Nagaland, Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio launched the Project on 02.12.2013. In Nagaland, NERLP is implemented in Tuensang covers 8 blocks and Peren covers 3 blocks.

The Project focused on Economic Upliftment, through Micro financing, banking services provided to unemployed or low-income individuals to access financial services which ultimately give impoverished people an opportunity to become  self-sufficient, and Sustainable Livelihood, through Self-Help Group. A self-help group is a small economically homogeneous affinity group of rural poor, voluntarily coming together to save small amount regularly. The success stories are changing lives and transforming communities. 


The youth are the backbone of the Society, particularly in the Village, but the unemployed and school drop-out with high rate, as such the need of employment has been observed. The Project has identified Agency who impart training and trained about 993 both Tuensang & Peren in various sectors like Aviation, Hospitality, Health Services. Electrical etc and send them for placement. 


The Project with the focus of its objective of improving rural livelihood, especially that of women and unemployed. The need for hygiene is one top priority with Swach Bharat Mission Objective instilling to the Community, Celebration of World Environment Day and Swachhata Hi Sewa by the community along with other Govt, Departments is another milestone making impact the project communities on cleanliness India. 


The desire outcome of the Project to be achieved has been set in terms of increase in income and institutional sustainability.
