Imphal, February 25 (NNN): The All Tribal Rights Protection Forum, Manipur (ATRPFM) has appealed to the State Government of Manipur not to recommend the inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list of India. The ATRPFM also urged the Government of Manipur not to be a “silent spectator on the burning issue”.
In the event “any untoward circumstance” crops up from the issue, the tribal forum cautioned that the State Government of Manipur will be held responsible. The ATRPFM also appealed to the Government of Manipur to intervene on the issue by studying the “history and present situation” of Manipur tribal community.
ATRPFM then urged the HAC (Hill Area Committee) of Manipur “to intervene on the issue or else resign from their posts”.
Meanwhile, the tribal forum appealed eminent tribal leaders, politicians, bureaucrats, general tribals and civil society organizations “to kindly co-operate and help in many aspects on the issue”.
The forum asserted it did not oppose any community’s demand and rights “but appealed the concerned authorities to intervene and resolve the issue.”
It told the authority concerned that “unless the issue is resolved the tribal forum will not stay calm.”
“Every indigenous community has a right to protect and defend their own constitutional rights,” ATRPFM maintained.
