NPCC says general election 2019 verdict based on EVM manipulation and religious polarization

DIMAPUR, JUNE 9 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has refused to accept the verdict of the 2019 General Election to the 17th Lok Sabha while terming the verdict as “fraudulent based on EVM manipulation and religious polarization regulated by a biased ECI in total violation of the Election Model Code of Conduct.”

The NPCC, as per the resolution adopted during the general session held on June 7 at Congress Bhavan, Kohima, has decided to move the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to take cognizance of the EVM manipulation and move the Court to declare the recent election null and void and demand re-election with paper ballot.

In a press statement issued by NPCC president K Therie and general secretary Capt GK Zhimomi on the resolutions adopted, it maintained that for fear of EVM manipulation, 21 political parties had demanded paper ballot but the Election Commission of India (ECI) refuted without any acceptable reason. Further, when the 21 political parties demanded 50% verification of VVPAT slips during counting process, the ECI flatly rejected rendering use of VVPAT meaningless.

The NPCC also alleged that the huge victory margin of someone like BJP’s Pragya Singh Thakur who is under trial as terror accused and Godse patronizer goes to prove that it is hatred against secularism, religious polarization and EVM manipulation. It also refused to believe that Congress ruled states in Hindi speaking belt would be wiped out without the cited reasons.  In view of the above premises, the NPCC said it has lost faith in the election process of Indian democracy.

The NPCC meanwhile appreciated the decision of the Congress president Rahul Gandhi for owning moral responsibility, however resolved to support the resolution of the Central Working Committee (CWC) in rejecting his resignation.

The NPCC felt that the BJP led NDA government has moved the nation to a dangerous position especially for religious minorities and oppressed castes. It said the feeling of divide is growing in them inds of the people for want of safety and security.
