NPCC submits memorandum to Governor, seeks inquiry on dereliction of duty by CEO

DIMAPUR, JUNE 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Nagaland for setting up an impartial ‘Enquiry Committee’ to dig out the facts and circumstances leading to the dereliction of duty by the office of the Chief Election Officer (CEO), Nagaland in the recently concluded Lok Sabha Election 2019.

According to the memorandum, a copy of which was made available to The Morung Express, the NPCC alleged that the CEO Nagaland issued shortage of Polling Agent Forms to INC candidate, whereas, surplus forms were issued to other political party candidates in the recent Lok Sabha Elections, 2019 from Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency.

The NPCC claimed that this ‘show of favoritism’ was established through the information provided under Right to Information Act, 2005.

It stated that in the recent Lok Sabha Elections, 2019, the Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency had a total of 2227 polling stations, wherein, the office of the CEO issued 3500 nos of polling Agent Forms to the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate, though about 4600 nos of polling Agent Forms was required for appointment of 2 (two) polling agents in each polling station.

It further informed that the forms issued to NDPP candidate was 10,306 nos, NPP candidate was 4020 nos and Independent candidate was 400 nos.

In this connection, the NPCC demanded that the ‘Enquiry Committee’ report and action taken on the matter be made known to all within one month from the date of submission of this memorandum.

The NPCC also demanded to know why the office of the CEO Nagaland is letting the INC candidate to incur expenditure on printing of additional Polling Agent Forms and the said expenditure to be included in the account of INC candidate election expenditure.
