NPF legislators abstain from Naga political issue forum’s meet

Kohima, November 17 (MExN): Legislators of the Naga People's Front (NPF) led by Shürhozelie declined the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker's invite for a meeting of the Parliamentary Working Committee of the Legislators' Forum on Naga Political Issue, expressing reservations on the Speaker's position as Chairman of the Forum “when (the Speaker) cannot uphold the Constitution of the Country and (the) Assembly Rules.

“When one cannot stand for the truth and the rule of law, one cannot be expected to bring about any positive things on such important issues as our Naga political problem,” the legislators said in a signed letter addressed to the Speaker.

The Speaker had convened a meeting of all the members of the PWC and both the two MPs on November 17. The NPF legislators however placed on record their position on the Naga political problem saying they are ready to “pave way in the event of the realisation of a negotiated political settlement that is honourable and acceptable to the people.”

The letter was signed by Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, Yitachu, Y Vikheho Swu, Kuzholuzo Nienu, Chotisuh Sazo, P Longon, Thongwang, CL John, R Tohanba, and Torechu.
