NPF says CAA nothing but ‘politics of divide’

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 18 (MExN): Strongly opposing the recently passed Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Saturday said the Act is nothing but purely a ‘politics of divide.’

Asserting that to oppose the Act is a political resolution of the party, the NPF in a press statement said the party stand by its resolution as it foresee the danger looming large for the future generation if CAA is amended and enforced.

The NPF also sought to point out that no matter the assurance from Centre that the Naga people in particular and the North East region in general has been exempted by incorporating certain clause, there is more risk of infiltration by illegal migrants and the future of the region would be uprooted by the non-indigenous people if CAA is enforced.

It also apprehended that the CAA will open the “floodgate for a particular religious community to enter India and slowly flood all over the region including Nagaland state in due course of time.”

The NPF also stated that MP Rajya Sabha KG Kenye was suspended from the party owing to violation of party CEC resolution to oppose the CAA.

“No matter how high his status might be, so long as he is a member of the party, he is bound by party’s discipline and resolution. CEC is the highest decision making body of the party and as such no member of the party can twist the resolution of the CEC for his or her own convenience,” the NPF stated adding that the decision to support the CAA is purely and solely his own personal decision and not the decision of the party.

It also maintained that Kenye’s justifications to support the CAA cannot convince the party decision and stand and hence was suspended from the primary and active member of the party. It said the NPF is clear in its stand that ILP is only a temporary measure and therefore it is absurd to take shelter under ILP.
