NPF welcomes former NCP legislators

Kohima | February 17 : The erstwhile leaders of the state unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which included Agriculture Minister Dr. Chumben Murry and Parliamentary Secretary Pangnyu Phom, were warmly welcomed into the NPF party fold at a felicitation programme held at the NPF’s Central Office here today.
Welcoming them to the NPF family, both Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and NPF President Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu said their bold and timely decision to merge with the NPF has definitely strengthened the party further even as they announced that the DAN coalition and the relationship between the DAN alliance partners is strong as ever. Both also reiterated the regional party stands for solution of the Naga political problem and its support to the ongoing peace process.
Announcing that all formalities have been completed with regard to the merger, the Chief Minister assured that the other Independent MLAs are also physically with them and that together they will look forward to serve for the third term in power in the state.
“Coalition is courtship but merger is marriage”, he said and welcomed the two legislators and other party leaders into the NPF family. He also said he has personally met NCP leader P.A Sangma and explained the reasons behind the merger and that the latter had taken it well and accepted it.
On the occasion, he made a call for unity among the Nagas maintaining that Nagas are too small a community to be divided. “The British divided us and India is capable of dividing us further”, he said adding unity is the need of the hour.
Also speaking on the occasion, NPF President Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu said it was the desire of the people that the NCP also merge into the NPF to further strengthen the party and lauded the initiative of the Chief Minister to being together the alliance partners into a solid body which, he said, is in the interest of all concerned. He also appreciated the wisdom of the two legislators for taking the bold and timely action to come to the NPF, which he said, has strengthened the party to greater heights.
On the occasion, Dr. Chumben Murry was appointed as a member of the Working Committee of the NPF while Pangnyu Phom was appointed member of the Central Executive Committee.  Secretary General of the party, K.G Kenye chaired the programme.
