NPMHR offers support and solidarity

Dimapur, April 1 (MExN): The Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) on Wednesday extended its solidarity to all those who were affected by the panic and racism brought about by the COVID 19 pandemic.

“The global COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a humanitarian crisis that has brought about dimensions of health, human rights and economic emergencies…The pandemic panic has also stoked an outburst of racism against the people from Northeast that is being reported from many cities across India, “ the NPMHR said in a press release.

It recalled incidences of racism that took places across the country in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Kolkata and Mysore in Karnataka and said “People with different and distinct racial features being discriminated against is not only wrong but affects the dignity of a person and a people.”

This should be dealt with in all seriousness and severity, it stated.

Further, the NPMHR extended its hand “in combating the pandemic, panic and racism by sharing factual information and updates, connect with governmental and non-governmental agencies, follow up on grievance redressals and network with other support and voluntary groups.”

NPMHR, it said, is a voluntary organization funded by the contributions and service of its members “but we would also like to offer any form of assistance and service that is within our capacity.”

It appealed to the people to respond to this emergency by extending help and solidarity to people in need or in distress and not through panic and apathy. Help us to fight racism by reporting and standing up for those who cannot.

Further, it informed that the NPMHR can be contacted for assistance through any of the following numbers 9999228582, 9717136251, 7011182692, 9643922343 or by email at npmhrlink@gmail.com.
