The National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland state unit on Wednesday withdrew its ‘Letter of Support’ to the NDPP-BJP alliance while stating that it is yet to obtain authorization and endorsement from its National president as was directed by the Governor’s office.

NPP Nagaland state unit president Ato Yepthomi in a letter addressed to Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya stated that since it was unable to obtain authorization and endorsement from the party high command for the ‘Letter of Support’ it has only become necessary to withdraw the same and declare it null and void.

Speaking to The Morung Express on the new development, Yepthomi however clarified that it had not withdrawn its support to the NDPP-BJP alliance but had only withdrawn the ‘Letter of Support’ submitted in his capacity to the Governor.

He said the Governor was clear that since the NPP is a national party, the ‘Letter of Support’ has to come either from the national party president or the general secretary.

Towards this, Yepthomi revealed that NPP president Conrad Sangma would be attending the public swearing in ceremony of the new government on March 8 where he would personally submit the ‘Letter of Support’ after a proper discussion with the NDPP-BJP alliance for extending the support of its two MLAs.
