National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval has been “allocated the issue of talks" with the NSCN, according to reports in the national media.

This was stated in an order from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), dated September 16, which also defined the work areas for newly appointed Principal Secretary and Principal Advisor to the Prime Minister, PK Mishra and PK Sinha.

Doval, who has been a core member of Prime Minister Modi’s core advisor circle, will look into all matters relating to national security and policy matters -- except appointments. He will also oversee policy matters relating to ministries of External Affairs, Overseas Indians Affairs, Defence, Space, Atomic Energy and the country's external intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing.

He will also be in charge of all policies and matters relating to National Security Council Secretariat and the National Authority for Chemical Weapons.

Doval previously served as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and worked with Nagaland State Governor and interlocutor to the Indo-Naga peace talks, RN Ravi during the former’s stint at the IB.

He has also been widely regarded as being instrumental in the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August this year.
