NSCN (IM) Leacy charged with the rape of a minor

DIMAPUR, JUNE 21 (MExN): In a belated report received here, one NSCN (IM) cadre is learnt to have been arrested on June 15 for alleged rape of a minor from Kitsubozou colony, Kohima.  

The accused, identified as Khüchopra Veswü, reportedly a ‘Leacy’ of Chakhesang Region, NSCN (IM) had allegedly carried out the despicable act on the 13-year-old minor for over a year.  

Kohima Police confirmed of the arrest made and said the accused presently kept under judicial custody. PRO, Kohima Police Atu Zumvu said the accused confessed to his crime before the Court and a criminal case under IPC has already been filed against him at North Police Station.

Apologise to victim, family member and community

Admitting the report, the NSCN (IM) through its MIP on Tuesday apologised to the victim, family member and the community for the appalling act committed by one of its member.  

“Such heinous crime against hapless minor cannot be tolerated of a nation worker who owes allegiance to the national principle,” the MIP note stated. It also prayed for the normal recovery of the victim from the trauma of the tragic incident.  

Furthermore, Secretary to NSCN (IM) bearing the directive of the Kilonser, Kilo Affairs suspended Khüchopra Veswü from active service.  

An inquiry committee has been set up with immediate effect to investigate on his involvement in the crime. The final punishment would be awarded as per the gravity of his crime, the NSCN (IM) stated.  

The Chakhesang National Workers Forum (CNWF) in a press note condemned and denounced the despicable act of rape on a minor by one of its member and assured full cooperation to “award more severe punishment than the universally binding law for rape” to the accused.

CKH, CYOK condemns

Meanwhile, the Chakhesang Hoho Kohima (CHK) and Chakhesang Youth Organization Kohima (CYOK) has condemned the ghastly act of rape on a 13 year old minor by one Khüchopra Veswü for over a year.  

A joint statement from the two organizations on Tuesday said the culprit who claimed to be an NSCN (IM) cadre carried out the insane act by intimidation and threat to life of the minor.  

Further, the accused even threatened to take the life of the minor and her family members in the near future after his serving his sentence, the two organizations alleged.  

In this connection, the two organizations while condemning the shameful and inhumane act have appealed concerned authorities to take severest action as per the law.  

It also expressed appreciation to the Kitsubozou Women Organization (KWO) and all concerned individuals and authorities for taking sincere initiatives and arresting the culprit.
