Kohima, January 12 (MExN): The Khonsa battalion of the security forces apprehended an NSCN (R) cadre identified as Sergeant Major Manhua Wangpan on January 11 from Khonsa town in Arunachal Pradesh. Based on specific input of a cadre “trying to terrorize and extort money from Khonsa town,” the battalion launched a joint operation in conjunction with Arunachal Police and apprehended the cadre with a AK-56 assault rifle, live ammunition, extortion note, opium, brown sugar, Rs 5000 of extortion money, multiple debit/ credit cards and other incriminating evidence, alleged a press release from PRO (Defence) Col C Konwer. It informed that the cadre admitted to being active part of the group since 2015. He further revealed that he was part of a nine men team operating under Captain Eli Ketok, a senior cadre of the group and had come to Khonsa town for collection of money on his instructions, the release added.
