NSCN (R) questions Assam Rifles raids

Dimapur, April 15 (MExN): The NSCN (Reformation) has questioned the raids carried out by Assam Rifles on the residences of its officials and urged the AR not to “derail the peaceful and congenial atmosphere.”

A press release from the NSCN (R) informed that the AR raided homes of two of its officials – Dy. Kilonser Pichu Lotha and Lt. Col. Kuhuto Sumi – on April 14. It informed that the latter’s home has already been raided once last month and twice last year. The former, the statement added, was a Ceasefire ID Card holder but even after showing his card, the AR personnel took away a pistol and his personal bodyguard Robin Lotha.

Objecting the raids, the NSCN (R) stated that the raids were mostly carried out during the wee hours causing immense harassment and creating fear psychosis on the family.

The NSCN (R) pointed to the ceasefire signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (R) and maintained that an officer of the AR disrespecting the ceasefire ground rules “is totally unfortunate.”

As such, the NSCN (R) stated it has been reining in on its cadres and advised the AR to do the same. “We also caution the AR boys not to take our restraint as weakness, since we are also well equipped to defend ourselves and prepared for any eventuality,” it added.

“Peace is too dear and cannot be compromised because of few undisciplined, discourteous and wayward boys.”
