NSLSA organizes 11th mega legal services camp

Kohima, February 23 (MExN): Under the banner of “From legal awareness to legal empowerment,” the 11th Mega Legal Services Camp (MLSC) was held here today at Kohima Local Ground under the aegis of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) and Kohima Legal Services Authority (KLSA) in collaboration with District Administration, Government Departments, Stake holders, Private Sectors (Banks) and NGOs. 

The Camp was inaugurated by Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Judge, Gauhati High Court and Executive Chairman of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority. 

Speaking on the occasion, Singh gave a historical account on the origin of the legal Services Authority in the country and taking the shape as a Legal Services institution for justice delivery and securing justice to all its citizens.

Justice Singh also spoke on the importance and purpose of organizing legal services and the impact it will create for the people in the state.  

Chairing the function, Mezivolu T Therieh, NJS, Member Secretary, NSLSA said that, so far 10 mega legal camps were conducted in different districts, which started in Longleng district in the month of March, 2018.

The Mega Legal Services Camp and Mini Camp have benefitted over 50,000 people as beneficiaries for availing entitlements and benefits under various Central & State Government Schemes. In terms of beneficiaries, Zunheboto district recorded the highest number of beneficiaries reaching 7500 beneficiaries. 

In a short speech, Hoto Yeptho, Former Director of Land Resources Department said it was a remarkable initiative and venture undertaken by the Legal Services Authorities. Yeptho also appealed to various Departments and stake holders to make every possible effort for reaching out and providing services at the grassroots level.

Phuleto Yeptho, NJS, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima and Secretary of Kohima DLSA in his short speech talked about the marked effect of such camps which provides basic rights to the masses of Nagaland who are still living in ignorance, the under privileged and uplifting the society. 

Gregory Thejawelie, Deputy Commissioner Kohima assured that District Administration will continue to render all help and assistance for such activities by Legal Services Institution to connect citizens to various Government authorities.

Altogether, 25 Stalls/booths were setup at the camp by different departments, organizations, institutions and NGOs. More than 1000 beneficiaries were recorded to have availed various services and registered under various schemes. Some of the departments and organizations that participated at the event included Department of Economics & Statistics, BSNL, Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Sericulture Department, Postal Department, Fisheries Department, Child Line, NEN Enterprise, Land Resources, NAPAD, Medical Department, NSACS, National Tobacco Control Programme, Social Welfare Department, Soil & Water Conservation Department, Labor Department, Cooperative Society, Horticulture Department, SAKHI One Stop Center. Legal Help Desk and Assistance booth were also set up by Kohima DLSA. 

Panel lawyers provided free affidavits and drafting of Legal Documents, free birth certificate and death certificate were issued at the camp. Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry provided free anti-rabies vaccination, Chief Medical Office provided free blood pressure test and general medical check-up, Medical Dept rendered free TB test.
