NSUB condemns murder

Bangalore, June 3 (MExN): Naga Students’ Union Bangalore (NSUB), the apex student body of Nagas in Bangalore, has condemned the killing of a nurse from Ukhrul district of Manipur, who was working at a private hospital in Shillong. Her body was found dumped at Ryandang Briew near Umiam Lake in Meghalaya on May 29.

In a press statement, NSUB expressed shock and dismay at the incident. “We have lost a daughter, a sister and a good citizen. We have failed her as humans,” it lamented, while conveying condolences to the bereaved family and appealing for immediate delivery of justice.

The students’ body further urged the Chief Minister of Meghalaya and the law enforcing agencies to investigate the case thoroughly and award befitting punishment to the culprit as per the law of the land to avert recurrence of such crime in the future.

Amy Ozukum, Vice President of NSUB further expressed shock that such heinous crime is happening in a peaceful state of Meghalaya. She asserted that the State government and authority concerned must ensure safety of women and give it top priority. “The incident poses grave danger to women in the state if left unchecked, especially to students community in Shillong coming from outside,” she added.
