DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 9 (MExN): Nagaland University has acquired a fully equipped indoor sport shooting range at its headquarters in Lumami. With a 10-metre shooting range, it is said to be a ‘first of its kind in the state’ and “equipped with the latest training equipments.” Vice Chancellor, Prof. K. Kannan inaugurated the facility on February 8 last, a press note from Dr. Baljit Singh Sekhon, Dy. Director Sports stated. While dedicating it to the students’ community of NU, the VC averred that it will usher in a new era for sports in the university. The release quoted the VC as stating that NU is the only academic institute in the North East to have an electronically operated indoor shooting range. “He appreciated the Department of Sports for adopting the games where Nagas can be best in skills… games like shooting, distance race, racquet games, archery & martial arts will be the priority events of the Department of Sports.” The release further stated that the university’s department of sports has successfully conducted a shooting competition - ‘Nagaland University Shooting Championship/Camp Air Pistol (Women), Air Pistol (Men), Air Rifle (Men) & Air Rifle Peep Sight (women)’ at Lumami. Twelve students qualified for all the India University Shooting Championship at Gwalior (2010-11) during the event. It will be hosted by Jiwaji University. The release added that the VC congratulated the participants who got selected for the all-India level event while he assured technical and other assistance. “The department of Sports, Nagaland University has provided Indoor Range Facilities at the venue, Air weapons/Arms (Imported) for training, Ammunition (Imported) for the participants, Medals & Certificates to the successful Participants, Training and coaching by internationally reputed Technical Officials & Trainers, boarding & lodging and transportation.”
