NU Meriema students protest non-release of scholarship with candlelight vigil

Kohima, November 19 (MExN): In protest of the non-disbursement of scholarships and backing the NUSU, Lumami in its demands, Nagaland University Students' Union (NUSU), Kohima campus, Meriema held a candlelight vigil on November 18.

Led by the vice president of NUSU (Meriema), A Eyingbeni Odyuo, the university students held a procession “bringing into light the injustice of corruption in the Department of Higher Education,” stated a press release received here.

Inthono, the Asst. Prefect of Campus Men's Hostel, stated that the respective department should not “snatch away our rights” and that “we need transparency.” Lamenting that the majority of students depend on their scholarship for academic fees, another student hoped that “the candle that we lit today will spark the heart and mind, becoming a burning flame for a brighter tomorrow,” the release added.

It asserted that NUSU (M) stands beside the same demands of NUSU (Lumami) and strongly agrees that the “Nagaland University will continue to unite and fight for what is rightfully ours until justice is meted out.”

The vice president of NUSU (Meriema) meanwhile demanded that the department concerned should release the remaining amount of scholarship and give an answer during the given time or further course of actions will be taken.
