NVCO flays both MPs for supporting CAB

Kohima, December14 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) today condemned both the Members of Parliament (MPs) from Nagaland for voting in favor of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

As per a press release from NVCO press & media cell, Naga People’s Front (NPF) KG Kenye voted for the Bill on December 11 in the Upper House and the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) MP in Lok Sabha, Tokheho Yepthomi voted for the Bill on December 9.

It expressed “strong resentment for misrepresenting the interest and wishes of the people of Nagaland,” while adding both the MPs “have no moral right to represent its people in Parliament.”

NVCO further brought the attention of the people that “we must learn from our mistake for voting them to represent us in both the Houses in Indian Parliament.”

While Yepthomi, in his earlier tenure as MP in Lok Sabha was absent when CAB was tabled in Lok Sabha, the NVCO said that “again we voted him to continue the same and he voted in favor of CAB.”

It further regretted that Kenye during the recent protest against CAB by Northeast MPs showed his strong support. President NVCO, Kezhokhoto Savi added that the people of Nagaland are not to be convinced by the word ‘exemption’ and ‘safeguarding interests of NE’ as CAB is “totally bad and dangerous to our land.”

“We are not to say that we are protected by ILP and Article 371A as the word ‘Citizenship’ is totally different,” it added.
