Wokha, November 11 (MExN): Okotso Village Council chairperson, L. Chumdemo Ngullie has highlighted the deplorable condition of the road leading to the village.
In a press statement, Chumdemo said that the decades old PWD Road linking Doyang Hydro Electric Project (DHEP) with NH 61 via Sungro EAC HQ, Pangti and Okotso villages in Wokha district and Mangmedong, Longkhum villages of Mokokchung district is black topped till Mangmedong only.
“As such, the condition of the road from Mangmedong onwards, entering Okotso village land under Wokha district is sadly deplorable due to years of utter negligence,” he lamented.
Nevertheless, he maintained, scores of people from neighboring Mokochung and Zunheboto districts and other Eastern Nagaland districts braving the road to visit the Doyang Hydro Electric Project through all favorable seasons of the year is a pride for people of Sungro range.
In an effort to help boost the economy of the villagers and its surrounding villages under Sungro range, Okotso villagers aided by NREGA constructed the Okotso to Chubi river road “under acute hardship,” it was informed. “This road is considered as the villagers’ life line for the fact that it penetrates or pierces all areas on the 10 km stretch, encompassing the Village Community Forest, Okotso Rubber plantations, and the only transportable means for various business and life supporting purposes including vast stretch of cultivable land, vital to livelihood and source of economy of the villagers and the surrounding areas,” the release added.
The “hard earned road,” it stated, has been guarded, looked after and maintained by the villagers through all situations.
However, this preceding year’s unpredictable monsoon, clubbed with unprecedented torrential rains caused heavy landslides damaging the Okotso - Chubi road. With the service of JCB sponsored by TL Merry, villagers and members representing different organizations worked for 2 days and got the road repaired and cleared, it added.
