A girl from Dimapur was reportedly duped of cash amounting to nearly Rs 2 lakhs, falling prey to a fraudulent call promising a job with an airline.

On March 14, a girl came to Dimapur Airport with her parents to fly by a “non- existent Indigo flight” from Dimapur to Guwahati.

She was carrying an appointment letter with the logo of Indigo Airlines, signed “For Indigo Airlines, Airport Authority of India.”

According to a copy of the ‘appointment letter’ provided by the Dimapur Airport Director Mughavi Zhimo, the girl was appointed as an ‘independent full time job as a chair person of Indigo Airlines, Airport Authority of India’.

Additional Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Relo T Aye told The Morung Express that over the past two to three months, the girl had received a call claiming to be from the Indigo head office, promising a job with the airline.

Preliminary statements revealed that the girl was asked to deposit some money in a bank account for securing the job. After the unsuspecting victim deposited the money amounting to around Rs 2 lakh, she received an email which contained the appointment letter along with three e-tickets. The ticket was for their flight from Dimapur to Guwahati, where the girl was to undergo training from March 15 to April 30.

But on reaching the airport, the girl realized that she had been duped, as the flight tickets turned out to be fake.
Meanwhile, Dimapur Police has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and an enquiry has been initiated, Relo T Aye informed.

The ADCP said that this is not the first case of people falling prey to fraudulent calls and scams. Many cases go unreported, he said, adding that public should be more alert and also report such cases.

An official of the Indigo Airlines told The Morung Express that the case has been handed over to the concerned department, and refused to comment further.

The Dimapur Airport Director said that such cases show the ignorance of the public and appealed to not fall for such fraudulent job offers.
