DIMAPUR, MAY 12 (MExN): The Oorja Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament for Nagaland will take place in June. As per a press release, the HQ IGAR (North) will organise the tournament at Kohima from June 9-19 with the objective of identifying budding football talent. A total of 50 teams (30 boys and 20 girls) are slated to compete this year.
The release informed that “it will be an open invitation tournament for football clubs” affiliated to the state football association and teams from schools affiliated to the CBSE/IPSC or state boards.
Players born on or after January 1, 2000 will be eligible to participate. In this regard, it informed that valid age proof of the players will be required. The expenses for food, accommodation and transport will be borne by the organisers, while player kits will also be provided, it added.
The tournament carries a total cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs for the top 3 teams.
This tournament will act as the hunting ground for setting up the state boys’ and girls’ teams to compete at a national level tournament scheduled from July 16 to 25 in New Delhi.
