Various organisations from Garo Hills have met the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma during the recent cabinet meet in Tura with the demand for holding of either the winter or summer session of the Meghalaya Assembly in the town of Tura.
Further, they sought the expediting of the construction of the Governor’s House in Danakgre area in the town which they felt was being mired in corruption, as a result of which the delay in its completion.
The organisations that raised the demand were the All India Garo Union (AIGU), Garo Student Union (GSU) – Interim Body, All Achik Youth Welfare Society (AAYWS), All Achik Youth Federation (AAYF) and the Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC). A copy of the demand was also submitted to the Chief Minister.
“It has been a long standing demand for holding such sessions in Tura and dates back to 1980. Also students would be able to witness the sessions which will help them to enhance their knowledge of discussions and debates that take place in the Assembly. Further, this will also open up employment opportunities and enhance the profile of the town of Tura,” felt the organisations.
