Orgs oppose alleged plan to move ‘masjid’

Newmai News Network Imphal | October 31   Various Muslim organisations in Manipur strongly opposed the alleged move of Ukhrul District Bar Association for the eviction of a masjid at Ukhrul in view for the construction of a new district court in the area.   The Muslim organisations such as All Manipur Muslims Organisation Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC), Muslim Council Manipir (MCM), Manipuri Muslim Online Forum (MMOF), United Manipur Muslims Women Development Organisation (UMMWDO), All Manipur Muslims Girls Students Organisation (UMMWDO) and many others opposed the move of the Ukhrul District Bar Association asking to shift the masjid to other area so that a new District Court complex can be set up there.   Speaking to media persons here today, AMMOCOC president SM Jalal said that the Muslims are not against developments and construction of the new District Court “but the shifting of the masjid is against the Islam religious principles”.   According to Islam religious principles, once any masjid was installed in an area, it cannot be changed to other places “till the world ends,” Jalal stated.   A joint memorandum of Rayotang Shimva Organsiation (RSO) and AMMOCOC has been submitted to the Governor, the Chief Minister and other concerned authorities praying for proper demarcation of land allotted to District Court Complex, Ukhrul claming that the masjid area was excluded in the Government order for the construction of the said new complex.   Jalal claimed that the masjid, established in 1995 with the approval from the Government of Manipur, was the oldest among the three masjids built in the hill districts headquarters.   The Muslim organisations also condemned Manipur Law Minister L Jajentakumar who had reportedly assured the public to shift the masjid during his last visit to Ukhrul. In this connection, the organisations will organise a public meeting on November 2 to decide the future courses of action, Jalal added.
