Kohima, September 10 (MExN): An orientation programme under the theme “Facilitating Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities” was held at Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), Kohima on September 10.


A press release issued by Dr Devanand Sinha Principal, MITE stated that the programme was conducted by National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) (Divyangjan), Navi Mumbai in collaboration with Cherry Blossoms Society, Kohima.


About 100 students (1st Semester) from Modern College and 100 Student-Teachers (3rd Semester) from Modern Institute of Teacher Education, Kohima participated in the programme, the release said.


It stated that the programme began with an invocation by Dr T S Pandian, Associate Professor, MITE and welcome address by Pelee Hekha, Managing Director, Modern Society of Education. The resource persons Dr. Gnanvel, Director & Assistant Professor, CRC Davengere, Karnataka and Ravi Prakash Singh, Lecturer in Special Education, NIEPIE RC, Navi Mumbai, elaborated on various topics such as types of disabilities, causes, prevention, inclusiveness of persons with disabilities in the classroom, society and home, etc.

 
The two sessions went with audio and video presentations with interactive sessions in between and the programme ended with a vote of thanks by D. Adani, President, Cherry Blossoms Society, Kohima, added the release.
