PAC to scrutinize two departments

Dimapur, January 28 (MExN): The Public Accounts Committee, Nagaland held an “evidence meeting” January 27-28 with 12 government departments. In the meeting two departments’ reports were said to have been “deferred” for want of “concrete information and their AHOD/HOD.” The Public Accounts Committee issued a circular today, detailing its current functions and activity. Two departments “consisting of 28 paras” were “deferred” for want of “concrete information and their AHOD/HOD.” After thorough examination along with the evidence provided by the departmental representatives, the committee will prepare the main report to implement the committee’s observations and recommendations within three months, the circular said. The departments were not identified in the circular of the Public Accounts Committee.
“If the government departments do not comply/oblige with the committee’s observations and recommendations, it is the prerogative of the committee to report to the concern ministry on the unfruitful expenditure/diversion of funds or any CSS funds are misappropriated,” the committee stated. The committee also “calls” the AHOD/HOD for not implementing/ignoring committee’s observations and recommendations to the government as they are liable to explain before the committee. The committee also directs the chief secretary to make “adverse remarks’ in the ACRs for the lapse.
“Since the committee acts on behalf of the house, it has its prerogative to ask the necessary documents from the government departments and also disallowed tendering evidence if come unprepared and call back for the next day as part of disciplinary measures,” the committee explained. “In short, all the government departments are accountable to the Public Accounts Committee,” it added.
