Panic hits Moreh residents after live bomb found

Our Correspondent Imphal | March 19   Residents of Chandel district’s Moreh town bordering Myanmar were panic stricken after a live bomb was found planted inside the complex of Moreh Police Station this morning.   The incident happened a day after a bomb explosion hit the LIC office and two houses at Moreh Ward No-3 around 7:30pm. No one was injured in the blast.   Saturday's incident occurred following the placing of the powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) by unknown persons in a drain of the complex around 6:30am.   The residents were prevented from entering the area until the IED was retrieved by a bomb squad of Manipur Police from Imphal around 2pm. The bomb was later defused in an open field opposite an Assam Rifles post located close to Kondong Lairembi temple.

  Moreh is located about 110 km from capital Imphal.   Moreh was shut down and movement of vehicles along National Highway 102 disrupted due to an indefinite bandh in the commercial town called by the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Chandel from last midnight to protest the blast.   KSO, Kuki Women Union on Human Rights and Hill Tribal Council, Moreh condemned the explosion for which no group has claimed responsibility so far.   Meanwhile, Police informed that four militants belonging to different outfits, including that of Zeliangrong United front (ZUF) were arrested during separate operations conducted in various areas of the state in the last four days.
