Dimapur | March 6

The BJP’s Y. Patton is reported to get the post of Deputy Chief Minister. If the state BJP leaders are to be believed, the party has propped up Patton as the candidate to the post in the yet to be sworn in People’s Democratic Alliance government led by the NDPP’s Neiphiu Rio.

“Yes, this report has been going around since yesterday but cannot say for sure it’s confirmed,” said the General Secretary of the BJP, Nagaland unit, Jaansillung Gonmei when contacted by The Morung Express. He informed that the BJP has laid claim to the post of Dy.CM and also that of the PDA chairperson.

State BJP President, V. Lhoungu was more direct in his response stating that Patton will become Dy.CM. He said that “technically, he (Patton) should become the Dy.CM since he has been elected as the BJP Legislature Party leader.” According to Lhoungu, its alliance partner – the NDPP is fine with the BJP’s proposition. The NDPP could not be reached for comment.
