PCC suspends hunger strike

Dimapur, December 16 (MExN): The Public Coordination Committee (PCC) has suspended its hunger strike after an assurance from the Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang that the revocation of the October 26 Office Memorandum will be considered in the next cabinet meeting to be held before Christmas.

The PCC began its hunger strike on December 15 by assembling outside the Nagaland Civil Secretariat as the 19th session of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly progressed.

Revoking the October 26 OM, which placed Grade III posts outside the purview of the NPSC, implementing Lokayukta, and declaring answer keys of exams conducted by the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) were its main demands.

At a meeting on December 16, the Chief Minister and his colleagues also agreed to direct the NPSC to declare answer keys in all stages of examinations for both civil service and technical exams, informed the PCC in a press release through its Media Cell.

However, the PCC, comprising of Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland, Public Service Aspirants of Nagaland (PSAN) and the Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and various other organisations, maintained that its hunger strike has been suspended only on the CM’s assurance.

If the October 26 OM is not revoked by the government of Nagaland, the PCC will resume its hunger strike with full intensity, the PCC asserted in the release.

Further, it ‘sternly’ reminded all the departments to keep their respective departmental exams in abeyance until the issues are resolved.

Meanwhile, the PCC also appreciated the gestures of the youth organization and residents of Phezoucha for graciously providing blankets, chairs, firewood, etc during the strike as well as each and every individual who “extended material, moral and prayer support towards the cause.”
