Peace activist Niketu Iralu receives Rotary Peace Award

Peace activist Niketu Iralu has been conferred with the prestigious Rotary Peace Award 2018 under Rotary Club Kohima.  

Rotary Club Kohima instituted the peace award in 2016 and the first award went to Naga Mothers’ Association last year while Iralu received the second RCK Peace Award.  

Highlighting the profile of the recipient, Rotarian Kezhokhoto Savi said the 83 year old peace activist Iralu had worked fulltime with Moral Rearmament (MRA), now called Initiatives of Change since 1957.  

He was chairman of Naga Reconciliation Commission and Peace Committee of NBCC. He worked with NMA to establish Mt. Gilead Home for Counselling Rehabilitation of Addicts. He has also received Awards from Assam Government for National Integration and the UN Brahma Foundation – The Soldier of Humanity Award.  

Rotary Club Kohima annual peace Award is sponsored by the family members of Late. Catechist Suosahie Dzüvichü in memory of their father, who dedicated 60 years of his life for the Catholic church, a man of God ,who constantly preached the Gospel tirelessly for the greater glory of God and mankind.  

The award handed over by Rotary International District Governor 3240 Sunil Saraf to Aziebu Shaiza in the absence of Iralu. The award was given away during the visit of Rotary International District Governor 3240 to Kohima on June 9 last at Hotel Japfu.  

In his address, Saraf said Rotary is unique from all organisations which gives an extra energy to understand and resolve problems with the support from the members of the family who comes from different backgrounds and professions, he said.  

He said that Rotary Club Kohima though has a group of 21 members should not be discouraged but they should be proud of being the members of a family with over 35000 clubs and 1.2 million members spread across 220 countries in the world.  

He also appealed the Rotarians in Kohima to do something major which is noticeable and permanent in order to bring about positive change in the society.  

Assistant District Governor Rotary International district 3240 R S Panesar also exhorted the gathering.  

The function was chaired by RCK president Z. Tokishe Sema while an overview of RCK was presented by Rotarian Dr Rosemary Dzüvichü.   Rotarian Ase Yhome proposed vote of thanks.
