Victoria Beckham is notoriously perfectionist in picking her outfits in good time for a big day. So she was in turmoil when she discovered her navy blue Philip Treacy hat wasn’t ready for the wedding as the clock ticked towards 7am, an hour before doors opened at Westminster Abbey.
‘We were still working on Victoria’s hat right up until the last moment before it left the studio at 7,’ said Philip’s design assistant. ‘She came into the studio three weeks ago with her outfit and we made the hat around what she had chosen to wear. She brought her own label VB dress with her shoes. Philip came up with concepts inspired by her dress fabric but unfortunately it had to be remade several times, at considerable cost. The fabric just wasn’t right, so even though we started it a few weeks before, we were working all night on Thursday through until Friday morning.’ Added the design assistant: ‘We worked for four days in a row with no more than three hours’ sleep a night.’
