Phaipijang village celebrates 50th Mimkut

Dimapur, January 19 (MExN): The 50th year of Mimkut – the post harvest festival of the Kuki tribe of Nagaland, was held in Phaipijang Village, Dimapur.  

The Mimkut Golden Jubilee celebration symbolizes fraternity, bond of unity and God’s blessing during the past 50 years. Display and performance of rich cultural traditions and merry making formed a vital part of the celebrations. On January 16, Yamao Konyak, BDO (RD Chumu Block) was the Chief Guest of the programme and Atong Khongsai, GB Phaiipijang was the Chief Host.  

The celebration on Day 1 started with the cutting of Job’s tears by the chief host followed by the displaying of traditional artefacts and various Cultural dances. The celebrations continued into the night with an Extravaganza Nite which witnessed Mrs. Kut and traditional and Modern Cultural dance competition. L. Singsit, IPS DGP (Prison), Govt. of Nagaland, was the chief guest at the extravaganza.

  The second day started with the unveiling of Mimkut Golden Jubilee Monolith by the chief guest Lengkhongam Misao, IAS Border Affairs, Secy to the Govt. of Nagaland, and Lalkhongam Gangte, President KIN, as the chief host released the Mimkut Souvenir.  

Cultural troupe from various colonies performed various cultural dances and took part in indigenous games. The Day-2 night programme was celebrated with Alun Hangsing, NCS Secy (Supply) Govt. of Nagaland as the chief guest and witnessed various special numbers from Kut band, and guest bands like Blank Cheque, Medziphema, Mass Age Kohima among others.  

The event also saw a special appearance from Former Miss Nagaland (2014) and reigning Miss North East Queen 2016 Miss Veineinem Singson.  

The Miss Mim Kut contest was one of the top draws of the celebrations which eventually saw Lhingtindim being crowned the winner. Neingainem and Lamneiphal were crowned 1st & 2nd runner up respectively. According to the Media Cell, the celebrations was live telecast in YouTube and was viewed by more than 6500 viewers. The jubilee celebration was attended by more than 2000 people from far and near.
