PHED Dhansiripar joins nationwide campaign

Dimapur, March 19 (MExN): The ‘National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness Week’, as part of nationwide campaign, was observed at Dhansiripar. PHED Dhansiripar sub division conducted a workshop on March 18, which recorded participation of WATSAN committee members from 34 villages.
On March 19, a sanitation drive was undertaken where the Traditional Ring Well and Iron Removal Plant was cleaned.  During the formal function, Er Sentimeren, JE delivered a short speech on water and sanitation, Er Lipok, JE conducted demonstration on the use of Water Testing Kits and Er Bendang, JE delivered the vote of thanks. Later, a rally was held with the aim to sensitised on safe and clean water, sanitation and hygiene.
Meanwhile, message on National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness  Week 2015 contributed by Water & Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO) PHED Nagaland, stated that the PHE department has set up Water Testing laboratories in all the eleven districts of the State. Everyone can avail the opportunity to test water from the laboratories where experts like the PHED officials and chemist are available to extent their service.
It stated that in social development, “lack of toilets affects people’s dignity, privacy, status and safety. Health is definitely one of the things that we take for granted until we lose it.” It also disclosed that 80% of the diseases in the Developing Nations are due to water borne and excreta related diseases like Diarrhoea, Cholera, Typhoid, and Hepatitis A (Jaundice), and worm infections and due to unhygienic living conditions like Malaria, Filaria, and Dengue etc.
The WSSO PHED Nagaland in the message highlighted the danger of unhealthy surroundings, unhygienic condition such as open defection, stagnation of water.
