Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): The Signal Phom Union Dimapur will be celebrating the Phom Monyiü Festival on April 4 at Signal Angami Sector-B (Junction). S Pangnyu Phom, MLA 50th A/C longleng and G. Hukugha Sema, IRS Joint Commissioner, Income Tax, Kolkata, GoI will be the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. The festival will also highlight cultural extravaganza and community feats.
A press release issued by SPU president and general secretary said that the Monyiü is celebrated to invoke God’s blessing to have a bountiful harvest after the sowing is done in the paddy fields. It is also seen that Monyiü is a festival when sisters and daughters who are married off are regarded as honoured and cared by the family members. It is also the traditional belief that the soul of the departed members who have passed away in the previous year leave for their permanent abode only after the celebration of the Monyiü festival, Union added.
