More than 600 police recruits marched out under the banner of ‘Security Service Sacrifice’ to join Nagaland Police, a force that has won country-wide respect for being able to perform in difficult terrains and situations.

The latest batch of 618 passed out recruits (615constables and 3 havildars) includes 316 from the NAP, 299 from NAP (IR) and three from Home Guard &Civil Defence.

Nagaland DGP, LL Doungel, who graced the ceremonial attestation parade of the 54th batch NAP/IR recruits havildars and constables at NAPTC Training Centre Stadium on Friday, said Police is one of the “most indispensable” services among sister services or departments of the government.

Referring to the Gospel song ‘Take my life and let it be’ that was earlier played by the band, the DGP said in the Police service context, the recruits have undertaken a solemn pledge to dedicate their lives to the service of humanity.   “Police service is not an easy, pleasant or smooth all the way, you have to face many challenges and problems. This is one of the most indispensable services,” Doungel said.

While not undermining other sister services, Doungel said if a certain department closes down temporarily, it would cause immense hardships to the public but somehow life would not come to a halt. But if Police Service closes down even for a day or two, he said there would be total mayhem and chaos in the society and added one can only imagine the situation of traffic in Dimapur and Kohima without traffic personnel, to illustrate his point.

The police chief also reminded the “indispensible” service should be accompanied by a high sense of responsibility to live up to the oath that every police personnel took while joining the force.

Further, Doungel said in the fast-paced modern world where parameters keep changing, Police to should be able to adapt to the changes and keep abreast with the times.

The DGP also gave away trophies and certificates to recruits who excelled in various disciplines during the training. Commandant, NAPTC, T Metha, presented a brief report of the training.

After the attestation, hundreds of relatives, family members and friends of the passed out recruits who also witnessed the parade, greeted and hugged the newly inducted police personnel outside the parade ground.
